The Run Hard Kids 2K is a shorter race designed for kids, age 5 and up. Kids will enjoy all the experience of a marathon race event, but only run a 2K.
NEW: This is a timed event with official awards!
Note: We have changed the format from a Kids Marathon to a 2K so that more kids can participate. The Kids Marathon is still an option, but is not required.

Marathon Option (not required)
Looking to raise the training/commitment level for your child? Consider the optional Kids Marathon training program.
Students will run with a parent and/or in their school's PE class, after school program or with
their friends and family on their own. Each child will keep a mileage log to track their
progress. Mileage is based on adult supervision and the honor system. Kids will complete
the final 2 Kilometers on the actual marathon course on race day.
Your child can chart their miles in 0.25-mile increments and won’t have to feel pressured to run a
complete mile when they begin their training. However, if your child is training with their school’s
PE class they may structure it differently. Upon completion of 24.95 miles, your child will be prepared
to run the final 2K of the marathon on race day.
We go to great measures to insure your child's safety and we appreciate everyone abiding by our rules to accomplish our mission.
First, each child will receive a T-shirt that they must wear on race day. Your packet will
also contain your child's race number that MUST be worn on the front of their shirt. Attached to the
race number is a PARENT CLAIM TAG. You must detach this and keep it with you so that you may identify
and claim your child after the race. After the runner crosses the finish line, they will be directed
to the left and walked over to the FIRST CITIZEN CAFÉ COURTYARD.
Please DO NOT take your child from
the finish line. Volunteers will keep them moving away from the finish line. This is for the safety
of each child.
Parents will sign their child out at the First Citizen Café by showing the wrist band. NO CHILD WILL LEAVE
WITHOUT A PARENT WITH A WRIST BAND! Please come quickly to pick up runner, we do not want them missing
the fun over at the Athlete’s tent.
Second, we will have uniformed officials
such as firemen, policeman, athletic teams and high school ROTC members running with the children. They
will insure that the runners stay on the correct course while offering them encouragement to finish their
marathon goal. This is also another reason your child must wear their designated race day T-shirt so our
officials can identify them.
With your help, we will make sure the kids have an enjoyable and safe experience!
